Traveller: d66 of Planetary Bureaus and Criminal Hideouts

January 24, 2012 Leave a comment

Bad aliens! Bad aliens! Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?

Ok, I won’t torture you with my singing.

We’re excited to announce we’ve got two new d66 being released today. First up is d66 Criminal Hideouts. Need someplace imaginative for the alien your characters are searching for to hide, look no further. This list covers everything from low-life drug dens to high class private floating islands. Grab some new ideas where to stash your NPCs today.

Also up, we have d66 Planetary Bureaucracies. Sooner or later, everyone has to deal with some type of government bureaucracy. Name your offices something unique and a little troubling like the Vargr Registration Office or something totally opposite of what it actually does like Institute of Peace and Justice for the office in charge of oppressing the masses. Give your planets their own flavor with their own Planetary Bureaucracy Names.

[Pathfinder and Traveller] Recent Reviews

January 6, 2012 Leave a comment

In the past week, we received two new reviews. First up is the review for our newest release: Shadowsfall Legends: Pawn, Deception, and Sacrifice – Valdia’s Tale. This 4-Star review declares that it “would definitely be enjoyed by any adult who is a fan of dark fiction,” making sure to add that there are “no sparkly vampires here.” We’re really enjoying this story and are glad that others are enjoying it as well. Pick up your copy today at DriveThruFiction, RPGNow, Paizo.com, Amazon Kindle Store, Smashwords and B&N Nook.

Next up, we have and favorite of ours, the D66 Compendium. This book is filled with random lists of names of ships, planets, aliens, robots and more is ideal for a Traveller or any science fiction role playing game. Zachary Houghton commented how, “the [d66] Compendium should be a nice add to your game.” He ended his review by saying “It’s a good buy for Referees needing that little assist or who enjoy random charts geared towards the fun of the Traveller RPG.” Get your copy at DriveThruRPG/RPGNow.

[Pathfinder and Traveller] Print Books Appearing on DriveThruRPG

December 8, 2011 Leave a comment

Recently we decided the Book of Beasts: Monsters of the River Nations should go out of print. It was a tough decision to make. It was our first book to get multiple printings but sales of it have slowed in recent times, enough so that reprinting again would not be profitable to do another print run. However, we recently decided to add it to DrvieThruRPG’s printing service. While we were at it, we decided to get book available for print that have never had a print run. This is still early so we’re testing it out Mech Tech ‘n’ bot: Fighters and Small Ships. So far so good and we expect to see it available for print purchase in about a week. Naturally, our print books will come with a free PDF download as well. Stay tuned to JonBrazer.com to catch the latest on which books will be available and when.

After we get the first Book of Beasts and several Traveller books available, we will be doing this with other books once they go out of print. While there are still copies available, these books will not be added for printing. So game stores and gamers that support their game stores, fear not.

Remember our Kickstarter project to a Shadowsfall adventure printed for Free RPG Day is going on right now. The more this project is supported, the more we copies we can get to you and everyone else worldwide. Support our effort today.

[Traveller] Two New d66 Lists for Evil Referees

December 5, 2011 Leave a comment

JBE is bringing back our monthly d66 lists again. We wanted to start it off again with a one for all you evil Referees out there. First up is d66 Reasons Why the Starport is Closed. That’s right. 36 ways to be evil to your players. Everything from mundane reason like Lawyers are suing the spaceport and solar flare activity to the extreme like a computer virus deleting takeoff-protocols or claims by a religious group that their deity will smite the starport. Yes, this d66 list does give you permission to be evil to your players.

Accompanying it, we bring to you d66 Desert Names. Deserts are everywhere and they all need a name. Whether your players are just visiting a planet for a day or if they spend much of their time on a single world, the deserts there needs names and this list will provide imaginative names for your game.

Both of these lists will be available at DriveThruRPG/RPGNow.com. Remember to check out our other d66 lists to see how they can help your home game.

“Traveller” and the Foreven logo are Trademarks owned by Far Future Enterprises, Inc. and are used with permission. The Traveller Main Rulebook is available from Mongoose Publishing.

So why are we doing this? This is best put by this Letter from The Wayne Foundation.

Hello, my name is Jamie Walton – founder and president of The Wayne Foundation.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, child prostitution has become an epidemic crime with victim estimates ranging between 300,000 and 800,000 children internationally.

Human trafficking, domestic trafficking, and child prostitution are crimes that can befall any child, anywhere, and at any time. I was once one of these children.  Like so many other victims my abusers were never arrested for their crimes.  I felt as if no one loved me or cared about what happened to me.

It has taken me many years to come to terms with the horrendous abuse I experienced as a child. Now, I am breaking my silence in the hope that I can give a voice to children who are today’s victims.

Every day, thousands of children in the United States are bought and sold for the purposes of sex.

With your help, we can give them a way out and a chance to start a new life.

The Wayne Foundation’s vision is for a world without child slavery. Our mission is to provide young women who have fallen victim to commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking with a means of leaving the sex industry for good. The Wayne Foundation is committed to fighting human trafficking, child prostitution & child sex exploitation one victim at a time by providing individuals with a safe home environment that will empower them with the tools they will need to stop the cycle of abuse.

It is our intent to stop commercial sex exploitation within the United States through direct victim assistance, public outreach, and by directly working with those who shape the policies and statutes which impact victims and their abusers.

Where you come in

Every cent of profit made from this bundle will go directly to The Wayne Foundation to help them accomplish this mission. Not only will you get some great RPG and board game products, but you’ll be helping Jamie and her foundation get off the ground and into action.

You can listen to an amazing interview with Jamie Walton, hosted by Kevin Smith which will give you a much more detailed idea of what Jamie went through as a child, and why she, with Kevin’s help, decided to start the Wayne Foundation. Here’s part one and part two.

Flagons and Dragons Interview

June 27, 2011 Leave a comment

Recently, I was interviewed by the folks at Flagons and Dragons. It was a real pleasure talking to Carl Bussler and I hope to game with the whole crew someday (since they’re like an hour away from me). After listening to the interview, give their other episodes a listen if you have not already. I hope you will find them as entertaining and I do.

Enjoy. And thank you again Carl for interviewing me.

What’s Going On With JBE And Traveller

June 22, 2011 3 comments

Hey everyone,

If you follow me on Twitter and Facebook, you’ll know I have been talking alot about Pathfinder quite a bit lately and not much Traveller. You are probably asking yourself, “So has JBE dropped Traveller altogether? Is there any Traveller in your future?” The short answer is, we have not dropped Traveller, but we are in a hold at the moment.

Our strategy for a while now has been: one Traveller book, one Pathfinder book, repeat. With the launch of the Book of the River Nations: Complete Player’s Reference to Kingdom Building, I was getting ready to work on my next Traveller book. We settled on it being a book of Warp Ships (with a working title of Mech Tech ‘n’ bot: Warp Speed). Early artwork has been purchased and I started laying out some deck plans. We were considering making some changes to the warp engine rules and were were even considering releasing the rules as an open playtest.

Then Mongoose announced Star Trek will be coming to the Traveller system.

While we’re thrilled about this, it is also a bit of a problem for us. You see if we did anything other than what Mongoose does, our ships will largely be viewed as “wrong.” We simply do not know if Mongoose will be going with the warp engine rules in the core book or not. While they may, they may customize them some. Plus there are other design choices that will going into that book that we would like to wait and see on. So after much discussion, we are taking a wait and see approach on our next Traveller book. Then we need to evaluate how much jives with existing OGL material and what we definitely cannot use. I don’t know precisely how long we will be waiting so we just ask for patience.

Our d66 line has been on hiatus for a while. Sales of the lists have slowed in recent months so we decided to give it a break for a few months and start it back in up in the fall. We’re guessing everyone has enough names for the time being and we’ll release more after we’ve given everyone a chance to use the names they already have.

So we will be quiet on the Traveller front for a while but we’re not gone. We’ll be back boldly going where no 3rd party publisher has gone before.
