Late July Update

I’ve been away form the computer for a while. Second vacation with my daughter this summer. In that time, I’ve been thinking and planning much about Traveller. Nothing I can talk about yet since plans are little than a kernal of an idea at the moment. but I think I am ready for the next step. It does however mean a shift in the way I’ve been running the company to date. I haven’t been thrilled with single page releases and I am not sure the market prefers this format either. So after the current run of 5 Creatures of Distant Worlds, that format will be changing. I still have several ideas as to what it will be changing to, but nothing solid yet.

As readers of Creatures of Distant Worlds will undoubtedly know, there is a particular setting in mind when I designed each these. That setting is currently being written. I expect it’ll be released next year. I also plan to goto a con this fall and plan to run the setting’s intro scenario a few times to get some of the bugs worked out. Details, both on the setting itself and which convention, will come once confirmed.

Did I mention I like hot wings?

Pathfinder is still very much on my mind. I purchased alot of stockart. Most of it is fantasy based (that can easily be ported over to sci-fi, but that’s a different matter). Releasing a few Creatures of Distant Worlds style products for Pathfinder (to test the market) is a very tempting idea.

Monday is back to work day and I need to add products to DriveThruRPG, finish up the PDF of the Character Datafile, write Ants…

Listen to EscapePod.org

Last week, EscapePod.org posted its 200th episode. 200 podcasts. Plus their flash fiction pieces and reviews. The best part is that they are excellent pieces of short fiction. These are some of the best stories published to date read for you with clean audio recording.

The podcast mostly focuses on science fiction, but in their early days they also had fantasy and horror as well. Since then they spun off those into PodCastle.org and PseudoPod.org, respectively. These are also excellent, but I prefer science fiction. For I have listened to the tales by Mike Resnick and have shed tears to Down Memory Lane and Robots Don’t Cry. I remember the joy and sorrow I felt when I first listened to a human-robotic love tale about Fred and Wilma (rated X). I still enjoy listening to a piece on a lesbian zombie (also rated X). I cannot get enough of the Union Dues tales; my favorites are EscapePod episodes 49, 154 and the origins story of 185. Searching all of them out is well worth it. And then there are the Mur Lafferty stories. Mur is my all time favorite author, period. I learned to love you work by listening to her stories on EscapePod (and her I Should Be Writing podcasts, but that’s for another blog post) and have been listening to her and reading her work ever since. Her Christmas stories are something of a tradition there. My favorites of hers are “Santa in my Pocket” and “I Look Forward to Remembering You“.

There are many, many other wonderful stories there. If you have a long commute to work or if you work all day on a computer and have plenty of free “ear” time, you owe it to yourself to download some of their stories. It will reignite your love of fiction and your love of science fiction in this busy world of ours. And remember to donate if you can. If you cannot, listen anyways. I cannot recommend them enough.

[Traveller] Creatures of Distant Worlds Subscription 2 Available

Earlier today, Spiders went active. This means the first Creatures of Distant Worlds Subscription ends. When we at Jon Brazer Enterprises launched the Subscription we did not know how many, if anyone, would be interested in having creatures in their home Traveller game. Less than a month later we know that the creatures would be smash success. And we at Jon Brazer Enterprises would like to thank each of those initial subscribers. Without you, we would not be the success that we are today.

With that, we would like to announce Creatures of Distant Worlds Subscription 2. These next five creatures focus on helping to make ordinary situations more dangerous. First off we have the Spiked Scorpion who’s spiked armor makes it deadly to attack. Next up we have Jump Angels and Demons. These creatures of myth make travel between the stars both exciting and deadly. Issue 8, Tarhhuf Riding Wolf, helps to make primitive barbarians a threat to any local population. This issue is also special in that it is the first of many to feature Alex Greene as its author. Following this comes Vampire Skrillids, tiny insects that make you wish you fell into a nest of mosquitoes. In he same vein as Spiders, Ants presents a wide variety of types and sizes, the largest being large enough to cause damage to a space ship.

This subscription runs for a limited time. You cannot sign up for the subscription after August 3rd. Remember, subscribers receive their creatures at 20% off the standard price and also can download it on the Thursday prior to the creature being offered for individual sale. Subscribe today.
