I applied to have my the Brazer Blog over at ENWorld added to the RPG Bloggers Network and they accepted it today. If you are not familiar with the Brazer Blog, it focuses mostly on the Pathfinder RPG material, but there is the occasional Traveller post there as well. Mostly I blog about actual play experiences with my Pathfinder character currently in a Curse of the Crimson Throne campaign (and give tips and hints in how to play/build a particular class). I also post the thoughts behind decisions when writing material, my thoughts on gaming related material, and similar topics.

The RPG Bloggers Network is a place to find the latest RPG related blogs. Opinions, play exeriences and news from average gamers can be found here. Check it out.

[Traveller] Talkin’ Mechs

Well it has been a while since I have posted much of anything other than press releases and such. But I have escaped my own inner slave driver for a few moments and I’m going to take a short break from mech writing to say…. I’ve been mech writing, alot. Final count, 19 mechs, 3 new careers, an appendix full of ship scale, mech optimized weaponry and a page of designers notes and suggestions. So far, its alot of fun. I plan to begin major teasers in a week or two.

Mostly, I’m working on the careers at this point. The careers are military, mercenary, and civilian/corporate, while there’s alot of overlap between the military and the merc career, there is alot of variation in the mishaps and events tables that I felt they needed to be two different careers. Another difference between them is that a mercenary company would have a representative that can get the mercs out of trouble. I mean a company is not going to send half a dozen 40MCr machines and not send along a lawyer that will get them out of a law suit should one arise. Plus the Representative serves in a leadership/tactician roll for the outfit.

The slave driver in me says it is time to get back to work so if you will parton me…

[Traveller] Robots, Atmos, and Aslans Doing Laundry

Out now from Jon Brazer Enterprises for your Traveller game are the latest in the d66 line: d66 Robot Names, d66 Robot’s Current Instructions, d66 Exotic Atmospheres, and d66 Random Things Found in a Ship’s Hold. When populating your world with robots, give them names inspired by popular science fiction and assignments other than moving objects from one area to another. Later, when your players come a cross a world with an exotic atmosphere, give them something more descriptive like 99% gaseous iron or 54% sulfur, 33% particulate material. Finally, describe to your players something interesting inside a cargo hold besides typical cargoes when they investigate a disabled ship. Examples include five heads on pikes, bags of worthless rocks, and an aslan family doing laundry.

Just watch out for the robots; not all of them are ordered to be honest in their dealings.

Show a Podcaster Some Love Day

I heard through the grapevine that today is Show a Podcaster Some Love Day. Myself, I am an avid lover of podcasts. My eye time is pretty taken up at work, but my ear time is quite free. I listen to podcasts while I am at work (day job) and while I am writing gaming material. So allow me to share with you some of my favorite podcasts.

  • EscapePod, PseudoPod, and PodCastle, the very best in short sci-fi, horror and fantasy fiction, respectively.
  • I Should Be Writing, an excellent podcast for new authors to help them with the writing craft.
  • TrapCast, a funny gaming podcast that is not for sensative or young ears (pushes the limits of SFW). Disclaimer I was a guest on the TrapCast once.
  • Fear The Boot, a quality gaming podcast covering a wide range of topics.
  • GenCon Seminars. There’s no way you can attend every single seminar at the great con. If you missed the con or simply missed these shows, find out what happened.
  • 3.5 Private Sanctuary/Know Direction, the premiere 3.5 loyalist podcast and Pathfinder RPG content in the podcastosphere.
  • This Week in Tech/Google/… a series of podcasts by Leo LaPort from the old TechTV channel. Find out what is happening in computing this past week with these many podcasts.
  • Last and definitely NOT least,
Scott Sigler, aka the Future Dark Overlord (or FDO for short), horror author writes some wicked cool stories and shares them for free via podcast.

Have a good listen. Enjoy world.

[Traveller] JBE Needs Your Help

Good day Traveller fans,

In April, Jon Brazer Enterprises will be turning one year old. It has been a long road and a learning experience, but we made it farther than we thought we would. And now, we are looking to go much further. To do that, we need your help. Over the past year we have been asking your opinion on a number of questions ranging from product topics, to PDF/Print preferences, and others. And we have listened. You liked the d66 line, we have a large d66 book on the schedule for later this year. You said you wanted a referee’s guide; we’re planning one for next year. But to do all this effectively, we need your assistance to get into game stores. Most local game store owners will not stock much from small press publishers without their customers asking them to carry such products. So we are asking you to ask. Here’s how:

Send an email to your local game store. Inside the body of the email, include three things:

  • Ask them to carry “Mech Tech ‘n’ bot: Mech Squadrons by Jon Brazer Enterprises” when it is released in April and can order it from their regular distributor,
  • Let them know we will be releasing additional Traveller and Pathfinder Compatible products in the future, and
  • Mention that they can talk to “Dale McCoy of Jon Brazer Enterprises at the GAMA Trade Show in March.”

As a way of saying thank you for your help, JBE will be releasing four d66 lists in April to all gamers that send this email before March 15, 2010 to their local game stores and include ‘contact@jonbrazer.com’ in the BCC line of the email. These four d66 lists will not be available anywhere else until the d66 book comes out (currently scheduled for October of this year). We will not be giving your email addresses to anyone.

Again, thank you everyone for making this past year exceptional. We hope to enhance your games more throughout the year and for years to come.

Dale C. McCoy, Jr

JBE is Going to GenCon/Origins … Sort Of

Plans are set, reservations made. Jon Brazer Enterprises is going to GenCon and Origins. The only problem is, I don’t know if I will be going. My book will be there for sure. I just finished ordering a slot at the Game Publishers Association booth to have a book or two there. So far, so good. I know what the Origins release will be: [PFRPG] Book of Beasts: Monsters of the River Nations. I’m still working out the exact specifics for GenCon will be. Either way, look for us at those shows.

[PFRPG] Preview #3 Arcanus Neutralus

For our last preview this week of the Book of the Faithful: The Worshiping Swords we bring you the whole entry of Arcanus Neutralus, the Neutral aligned sword dedicated to defeating but not killing arcane spellcasters and help them to follow the will of the goddess of magic. The Worshiping Swords will be available next week from Jon Brazer Enterprises.

Arcanus Neutralus

Tusara of the Nimble Treeclimbers worshiped the elven goddess of magic and devoted her life to following the deity. When she came of age, she chose to be a priestess of the deity. The goddess blessed Tusara by opening her eyes to the widespread indifference many arcanists showed towards their patron deity. Good or evil, law-abiding or rebel it did not matter. All bent the magical power granted to them by the goddess to their own will, never regarding the deity’s desires. The deity charged Tusara with helping them to see the error of their ways and to bring them into a more active worship and appropriate pondering of the goddess’ teachings.

Tusara began her holy quest at first explaining to every mage she came upon the desires of the goddess. She quickly found some willing to obey and many more resistant to the message the priestess bore. In her youth, she allowed those that resisted to pass without consequence. The goddess blessed the young priestess for her faithfulness and her progress but continued to urge the priestess to be more forceful with those that would not follow. As she grew in years and in power, Tusara challenged any arcanist that would not peacefully agree to the deity’s call to worship to a duel until one yielded. Most often she won, but the few that bested her held to their end of the deal and did not kill her. All save one.

She knew that the lich Bakonair would be the greatest test of her faith and power. Words failed to change Bakonair’s mind and the two fought. When Tusara realized that she had failed, she yielded. The cruel undead gave full display of his treachery and pressed his attack. After the priestess’ death, the goddess’ anger burned and smote the lich out of existence. Tusara’s body was never seen from again. A mysterious blade appeared in the goddess’ inner sanctum of one of her temples several days later. The blade confirmed that it possesses the soul of Tusara and was here to continue her work in life.

[PFRPG] Thursday Preview: Cover and Contents

The good news is that Book of the Faithful: The Worshiping Swords is moving along nicely. If things continue as planned, it will be available next week for download. So… what are The Worshiping Swords exactly? Short answer: they are intelligent weapons. Longer answer: The Worshiping Swords are a total of nine magic items possessing the soul of a faithful follower a particular deity. Each sword represents a faithful follower of a deity and desires to either see the deity’s goals furthered or their own goals furthered and were enabled to do so by their deity. Nine swords in total, one sword for each alignment (ok, eight swords and one mace). Each weapon possesses a special purpose and dedicated power to enforce those goals. Those nine weapons are:

  • Weeping Sword of Mercy and Justice, LG (Bring criminals to justice),
  • Dagger of the Lich, CE (Slay paladins),
  • Dakatnu’s Mace, CN (Humiliate rulers),
  • Rapier of the Judge, LN (Defend the weak and oppressed),
  • Dawn Blade, NG (Slay undead)
  • Thaggash, LE (Defend the forest and woodland creatures),
  • Arcanus Neutralus, N (Defeat arcane spellcasters)
  • Short Sword of Dragon’s Blood, NE (Slay dragons)
  • Flame Tongue of Baenashik, CG (Defend worshipers of deities with the Fire domain)

Tomorrow we will post the description of one of the weapons. For tonight however, we leave you the cover. Good night all.
