Fate: Don’t Let Zombies Gnaw Your Face Off

Powered by Fate Final Light BGThe few games of Fate Core I have played, I really enjoyed it. It was a quick and simple system that made a fun evening. Now I want to help you to have your own fun games of Fate. So for a fun Friday, we are posting a zombies for you to use in your own zombie survival game. Pathfinder: The Worm that Rises Once Per Millennium Awakes

Book of Beasts: Legendary FoesOne of the inspirations for monsters from the Book of Beasts: Legendary Foes is the idea of the ancient monster that sleeps and awakes once every [insert any large unit of time here] to devour the entire countryside. The millennial worm is one such monster. Once it eats its fill, it goes into a cocoon and transforms into a millennial tigermoth. This even deadlier monster also appears in the Book of Beasts: Legendary Foes, just in case the players fail to destroy the worm or locate its hidden lair before the monster reawakens.

Special Abilities


Acid Spit (Ex) As a ranged touch attack with a range of 60 feet, a millennial worm can shoot its stomach acid at a target, priming it for digestion. Upon a successful ranged touch attack, the acid spit deals 10d6 points of acid damage.
Grab (Ex) A millennial worm can grab a creature of Medium size or smaller without gaining the grappled condition itself.
Pliable Body (Ex) A millennial worm’s body is soft and takes half damage from bludgeoning weapons after accounting for its damage reduction.
The deadly millennial tigermoth and worm were last seen a thousand years ago. Scholars recorded the widespread devastation these creatures brought upon the land with unmistakable fear in their words. Mere months after death came from below as the millennial worms sprang up and devoured everything they could find, terror came from the skies as eclipses of the millennial tigermoths blotted out the sun and decimated cities. The bravest warriors of the land hunted them down in their caves, killing these creatures and destroying their eggs. While most scholars believe their kind are long since eradicated, a few believe that these creatures still exist—and that their eggs should be hatching soon.

Pathfinder: Riyal’s Counterspelling Spells

Counterspelling has never been any d20-based game’s strong suit. So when I played an elven abjurer named Riyal, I decided I would come up with a few ways of my own to knock my fellow spellcasters down to size. These spells were an obvious choice to be added in when I was writing up Book of Magic: Signature Spells 2. I hope you enjoy them in your game.

RIYAL’S COUNTERSPELLING PREPAREDNESS

Emerald green runes glow along the length of your arms. While this spell is in effect you may counterspell as an immediate action. You do not need to ready an action nor does this alter your position in the initiative order. You may take your next action normally. Once you successfully counter a spell (whether as an immediate action or as your normal action) this effect is discharged and the spell ends.

A bright green ray flies toward the intended target. Upon a successful ranged touch attack, the target must succeed on a concentration check or lose the spell he is casting. The DC of the concentration check is equal to 10 + 1d8 per caster level (to a maximum 15d8) + the level of the spell being cast by the target.

Traveller: Mass Combat Units

Creatures of Distant Worlds CompendiumI really enjoy a good mass combat encounter from time to time. In my opinion, it helps to give the game a note of the epic. So when books and movies like Starship Troopers large scale combats, I eat them up. My first work in Traveller was to develop some monsters to use in your game. Today, however, I am going to you something a little different. We, at Jon Brazer Enterprises, have some mass combat stats for monsters for your game. Now you can have your the standing army go up against a horde of monsters. So when the players are done fighting their own battle, they can look around and see the desolation of the landscape or the triumph of their side. None of these have a tech level since they are unintelligent but still dangerous creatures. We hope that this enhances your world and your game.

Pathfinder: A Monster That Just Wanderered In

Book of Beasts: Wandering Monsters 1One thing I dislike about dragons is how rare they are. I mean, in all my years of gaming, the only monster I have seen less than a dragon is a beholder (and we didn’t fight the beholder). So I wanted to make dragons more accessable. This dragon was suppose to be the first in a series of really low level dragons that can make dragons far more accessible to game masters.

Special Abilities


Acidic Spit (Su) A rock ophidian can lob an acidic ball of spit at a single target as a standard action. The target must be within 60 ft. The target takes 3d6 points of acid damage unless it succeeds a DC 13 Reflex save. The target sustains half damage if it makes the save. Once a rock ophidian uses this ability, it cannot do so again for 1d4 rounds. The DC for this ability is Constitution-based.
Dragon Scales (Su) For a short amount of time every day, the scales of the rock ophidian are as protective as their more powerful brethren. It can gain a damage reduction equal to its hit dice for a number of rounds a day equal to its Cha bonus. For a typical ophidian that means DR 4/magic for 3 rounds.

Living in the mountains, a rock ophidian spends must of its day crawling the rocky pathways of the mountains it inhabits looking for its next meal and building its horde. Like all dragons, the rock ophidian enjoys the luster of golden and silver coins as well as any gem it can find. It keeps its treasure in a mountain crevice it calls home. The rock ophidian prefers caves far to small for true dragons and much to treacherous to be accessed by mountain lions and other predators of the terrain.
The acidic spit attack is possibly the rock ophidian’s most distinctive feature. When it takes aim at its prey, it pulls its head in towards it body in much the same way a turtle pulls its head into it shell. Then it projects its head forward with great speed launching a ball of acid and other digestive juices towards its target. This deadly attack is the rock ophidian’s preferred method of beginning a fight.
The rock ophidian only attacks smaller creatures on its own. Whenever outnumbered or facing a creature its size or larger it will retreat as quickly as possible, seeking out reinforcements.
A 9th level lawful-good spellcaster can gain a rock ophidian as a familiar if she has the Improved Familiar feat.

Pathfinder: Clarissa’s Hard Headed Spells

Book of Magic: Signature Spells 2A friend my girlfriend use to game with loved to play a hard-headed cleric named Clarissa. My GF told me plenty of stories about how you could say things to the character and she just would never understand exactly what you meant. The player did naturally, but the character was as few arrows short of a quiver. So when we were coming up with spells for Book of Magic: Signature Spells 2, one of my GF’s first suggestions was Clarissa. These two spells were written for her.

CLARISSA’S CONFUSING SPEECH

The creature targeted by this spell has trouble understanding others and being understood. All spells and spell-like abilities with the language-dependent descriptor cast by the target of this spell suffer a -2 penalty to the spell’s saving throw DC. The target of this spell also receives a +2 circumstance bonus on saving throws against spells and spell-like abilities with the language-dependent descriptor. Creatures affected by this spell must also make a DC 15 Sense Motive check to properly understand normal speech from others and a DC 15 Linguistics check when attempting to normally communicate with others.
