Last week, Steven Helt won the RPG Superstar™ contest. In his honor, we have the first book he wrote for us, the Book of Beasts: Monsters of the River Nations, on sale all week long. The print version of this amazing monster book has been available in game stores on three continents and is a favorite among those looking for wilderness adventures. This book introduced several new classic monsters such as the autumn death, forest giant, lemkin, silverbell plant, and of course the river dragon.
We previously announced that this GenCon, we will be releasing Book of Beasts: Legendary Foes, a full-color monster books focused on the high level of play so you have a sufficient breath of monsters to choose from in your Mythic games. These collection of monsters will feature a dizzying collection of monsters that should scare the crap out of most players. We were discussing what monster should be on the cover when we came up with the idea of asking you. So we created a poll for you to vote on which monster you want to grace the cover of Book of Beasts: Legendary Foes. These are our top choices. Please let us know which you would like to see.
Thank you in advance and please share this with your friends. Voting will end Wednesday of next week so please share far and wide before then.

In honor of his win, we will be placing the Book of Beasts: Monsters of the River Nations on sale for $2 off starting April 8th and running through the following Sunday. We hope that you will take a moment to congratulate Steven either in the comments below, on the RPG Superstar announcement or through social media.
Image by Luis Antonio Salas LastraI hope you enjoyed our little April Fool’s joke yesterday. Today, however, we are presenting you something with enough seriousness that it could have been an April Fool’s release: kobold player characters. For all the kobold-lovers out there, myself included, we always wanted a kobold that was balanced against the Pathfinder Core Rulebook so we are not weaker than those that take humans or halflings. Or even gnomes.
Well one of the goals I had when I started Shadowsfall was to make a kobold variant that was on par, power wise, and with the umbral kobolds, I believe we have achieved that.
Umbral kobolds, like their Material Plane brethren, are pesky creatures that are looked down upon by the “big” races. On the Plane of Shadows, however, they are on the side of life against the insurmountable hordes of mindless undead that roam the Outlands and devour all that they find. Unlike humans, drow, dhampirs, fetchlings, wanderers, and the other countless races of the plane, umbral kobolds have a high birth rate and reach maturity quickly. So an umbral kobold tribe that is attacked by undead but a handful survive can replenish their numbers back to full strength in a mere 2-4 years.
For today’s preview we are showing you the racial traits for the umbral kobold. I hope you enjoy them in your own game.
Umbral Kobold Racial Traits
–2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence: Umbral kobolds are fast and a quick study but physically weak. Small: Umbral kobolds are Small creatures and gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty to their CMB and CMD, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks. Normal Speed: Umbral kobolds have a base speed of 30 feet. Darkvision: Umbral kobolds can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Natural Armor: Umbral kobolds gain a +1 natural armor bonus to AC. Crafty: Umbral kobolds gain a +2 racial bonus on Craft (trapmaking), Perception, and Profession (miner) checks. Craft (trapmaking) and Stealth are always class skills for an umbral kobold. Light Sensitivity: Umbral kobolds are blinded for 1 round if exposed to bright light, such as sunlight or the daylight spell. Umbral kobolds are also dazzled for as long as they remain in areas of bright light. Languages: Umbral kobolds begin play speaking Common and Draconic. Umbral kobolds with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Aklo, Dwarven, Gnome, Shadowspeak, and Undercommon.
Image by Malcolm McClintonHowdy JBE fans! Co-editor extraordinaire Richard Moore here, with an update about a long-anticipated product for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game! We’ve been talking to you guys at conventions and online in various forums, working to create supplements that deliver the game options YOU want most! Our latest in our popular series of player-focused supplements will be the Book of Heroic Races: Gelatinous Cubes!
This player supplement fulfills a long-lamented gap in player race options, as there are no playable races with the ooze creature type to date. We wanted to fix that, so we created a playable race that is perfectly balanced to interact seamlessly with other existing races in the core rules. Additionally, every gamer can now actively participate in the many great tropes associated with gelatinous cubes from their side of the screen! Want to sweep an entire hallway full of vermin so your party can proceed without taking all that pesky swarm damage? Now you can! Itching to hide in a wishing well and wait for an unsuspecting troupe of goblins to wander by looking for treasure? Look no further!
This supplement will be chock full of new player options, including class archetypes like the Cubist Painter (bard), the Cube Miner (rogue), and the 8-Bit Adventurer (fighter), alternate racial traits such as Flavored, Cloudy, awesome new feats like Glomming Strike, plus new spells, ooze-themed equipment, and much more!
We expect blockbuster sales figures as a result of our new initiative, so we’re proud to announce that Book of Heroic Races: Gelatinous Cubes will be offered as a full-color, hardback 64-page print product alongside our Book of Beasts: Legendary Foes monster supplement at GenCon 2013!

Last week, we mentioned that we are posting previews of recent releases. Previously, we posted a preview of Book of Magic: Insurgency of Summer. Today we are giving you a ship from Book of Multifarious Munitions: 10 Pirate Ships. The Vehicles section of Ultimate Combat presented a number of sample vehicles, however they were all mundane ships. So when I was designing 10 Pirate Ships, I knew I wanted a ship propelled by elementals. Something as magical as a ship propelled by elementals and as eerie as seeing a sailing vessel without sails would be highly iconic and memorable to any player. So to your game, I give you the Terror Trident.
Terror Trident
Modified Dromond Long Warship
Colossal water vehicle Squares 112 (145 ft. by 20 ft.); Cost 90,000 gp Defense AC 2; Hardness 5 hp 1,680 (839) Base Save +0 Offense Maximum Speed 180 ft.; Acceleration 90 ft. CMB +8; CMD 18 Ramming Damage 8d8 Description
Few need to see the flag of the Terror Trident to recognize this ship. Unlike most ships that sail the high seas, this ship lacks sails. The pair of eerily empty masts does not prevent this ship from moving. The goddess of piracy gifted her high priest, Captain Gavin Seawave, with 13 water elementals to push his ship. In return, the goddess demands that the crew of every ship they board be killed and thrown into the sea. The treasure, however, is to be divided by the crew according to their worth. The only exception the goddess allows to her mandate of death is if a prisoner bows in worship to the pirate goddess and will swear fealty to the hierophant and serve him faithfully. Propulsion muscle (pushed; 13 Huge water elementals) Driving Check none (Gavin Seawave commands the water elementals with his thoughts) Forward Facing the ship’s forward Driving Device the 13 Huge water elementals under the ship Driving Space the area under the ship Decks 4 Crew 48 (35 crew, 13 Huge water elementals) Captain Gavin Seawave (NE male half-elf cleric 14) High Acolyte Shirisha “Grunt” Bloodaxe (NE female half-orc cleric 3/fighter 10) Weapons 4 +2 shocking light ballistae, 2 each mounted to cover the left and right firing arcs.
