Traveller: Enter the State of Chaos

Long Live the Monarchy

Ms. Klein assigns the travellers to extract seven people from the Torres Monarchy, a region of Alespron Subsector engulfed in a bloody civil war. Here the characters can see for themselves what kind of havoc SORAG can cause if left unchecked. To make matters worse, Zhodani warships are attempting to pacify the more rebellious worlds, only serving to make the people more militant. Can the travellers convince their targets to come peacefully, or will they have to use force to achieve their goal? Will they be caught by Zhodani forces trying to remove such high value persons from that region of space?

This volume of Foreven Worlds continues the Prelude to War Adventure Path and includes:

Traveller: Monsters Are Coming

We are sharing what is inside the upcoming Prelude to War: State of Chaos. Earlier this week we were talking about the adventure itself. Today we are sharing details about one of the appendixes after the adventure, the one covering the monsters.

Weird and unknown creatures have always been a stable of science fiction as well as fantasy. From the crystalline entity and salt-sucking creature of Star Trek to the rancor and the wampa of Star Wars to the giant rock monster of Galaxy Quest, there’s always lots of monsters. And Traveller is no different. Whether you are looking for a psionic rat to invest your ship, a genetically engineered hyena cub that is all the rage of the nobility to have one of their own, or a dog that the ancients scattered to various planets and mutated to a mean, hairless beast, this issue has you covered. So if you want your neobarbarian bandits to be even more viscous, give them a demon dog. Want to throw in a side plot about a giant bat that has been mutilating livestock, we’ve got you covered. Or, if your players need a no-consequence combat to help them get into the game, pull out a giant spider that spits acid and let the players go to town. The choices are up to you.

Animal Hits Speed
Devil Dogs 15 6 m
Skills Athletics (dexterity) 1, Melee (bite) 2, Recon 1
Attacks Bite +2 (1D+1)
Traits Armour (+1), Heightened Senses
Behavior Carnivore, Killer

Traveller: State of Chaos Coming Soon

Yesterday, I turned over Prelude to War: State of Chaos over to the editors for final approval. It is almost done and will soon be read for you to download. So what is the basic adventure about?

First, just a quick recap of the previous adventure, Prelude to War: The Rose of Death. At the urging of their Imperial Intelligence contact, Juliet Klein, the travellers went to the Cornathian Empire to rescue a doctor from a group of rebel group. So this adventure starts off with another briefing from Juliet Klein. This time, it is not about a rescue from immediate danger as much as it is an extraction from a dangerous location. The players travel to the remains of the Torres Monarchy to get a number of people out of harm’s way, whether they want removed or not.

And yes, I said a number of people. Instead of going after 1 person, you have 7 this time around. While the previous adventure was rather linear, this adventure allows the players the freedom to extract their targets in any order they desire. Additionally, this adventure is not presented as a single story, giving you the referee the freedom to add in your own stories to this adventure, making it more of your own story.

We are really excited about this adventure and have been looking forward to it for quite some time. We hope this adventure, written by Traveller fan favorite author Martin J. Dougherty, is one that will excite you and your group.

Pathfinder: Hexes of their Ancestors

I hope you enjoyed these hexes because this is the last in the series we are posting to our website. Have no fear! There’s a good reason for it: we finished writing hexes for all the patrons. Which means that you can soon download Book of Magic: Patron Hexes really soon. And the best part is you already know what you are getting. All the patron hexes we published in our website since Shadow Patron Hexes are included in this series. It has been great fun writing these and hearing your thoughts on these.

Be sure to check out all the previous patron hexes in the series: endurance, trickery, death, agility, elements, light, and shadow.

So we have one important question: What underserved class could use more class options like the witch?

Ancestor Patron Hexes

Ancestral Disapproval (Su): The witch chooses a target and causes the disapproving voices of her target’s ancestors to flood its mind. A living intelligent creature within 30 feet that the witch can see becomes shaken for a number of rounds equal to the witch’s Intelligence modifier. This duration can be extended with the cackle hex. A successful Will save reduces this duration to 1 round. This is a mind-affecting fear effect. At 8th level the target becomes frightened instead of shaken.

Ancestral Knowledge (Su): The witch spends 1 minute in quiet meditation, communing with her familiar by holding it with both hands, and she hears the words of those who came before her. After communing, she gains a circumstance bonus to any one Knowledge skill check equal to her Intelligence modifier. This bonus lasts for 1 minute or until it is used.

Major Hex: Ancestral Hex (Su): When communing with her familiar to prepare spells, the witch spends 1 additional minute to talk to all the witches that came before her and learns one of their hexes. The witch gains the use of one of the hexes or major hexes from any other witch patron.  She has access to this hex until the next time the witch communes with her familiar to regain spells.

Pathfinder: Tentacled Martial Arts

Martial arts is something I have enjoyed my whole life. I studied two different styles of karate in my youth. I enjoy watching martial arts movies. And it was Exalted that brought me back into role playing games after college. So when I started writing for Pathfinder, I wanted martial arts to play a larger part. My first Pathfinder writing credit was Abbey of the Golden Sparrow. So whenever I started work on Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Gillmen, I knew that I wanted to include a martial arts style unique to the gillmen. The final result is the Squid Style.

Style feats, for those not familiar with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Ultimate Combat, are a series of three feats that form the martial arts style. Squid style is all about using all your limbs since you do not need to stand. It is not one performed above the water. It is not limited to gillmen alone, but it makes the most for gillmen to practice it.

Squid Style (Combat, Style)

Just like the multi-tentacled creatures of the deep, a practitioner of squid style can grab anything it wants.

Prerequisite: Improved Unarmed Strike, Skill Focus (Swim) or a swim speed, flurry of blows class ability, base attack bonus +3 or monk level 3rd.

Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus on combat maneuver checks made to grapple and to maintain a grapple. When you are using this style and you strike a creature with two or more flurry of blows attacks in a round, you can attempt a combat maneuver check to grapple the creature as a free action.

Squid Crush (Combat)

You crush any creature in your arms.

Prerequisite: Squid Style, base attack bonus +6 or monk level 6th.

Benefit: When you damage a creature you are grappling, you gain a +2 bonus to the damage roll. When you are using Squid Style and you are grappling a creature, you can choose to deal half your unarmed strike damage and perform one of the other actions (move, pin, tie up) while maintaining the grapple.

Normal: You can perform only one action while maintaining a grapple.

Squid Swim (Combat)

Like a squid releases ink to blind its targets, your attacks blind your opponents.

Prerequisite: Squid Crush, base attack bonus +10 or monk level 10th.

Benefit: If you confirm a critical hit against an opponent, the creature is blinded for 1 round. When you are using Squid Style while grappling a creature and swimming, you can move both yourself and your target up to your full Swim speed.

Normal: When you are grappling a creature, you can move up to half your speed.

Pathfinder: Gillmen Unleashed

Cthulhu Sleeps, Gillmen Awake

Beneath the sea, the gillmen serve their insane deity in their bid for freedom from their cruel aboleth creators. Against all kinds of undersea horrors they demonstrate their bravery. Now they fight to tame the wild underwater realms and make a home for themselves.

Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Gillmen is the essential guide for playing a gillman character. This 22-page supplement features:

  • Racial Traits to play a gillman, 5 Alternate Racial Traits, and 3 Character Traits to customize your character for this unique play experience
  • 17 New Character Class Options, including the dangerous lightningcaster magus archetype, the grotesque tentacled horror bloodrager archetype, the catshark familiar, the order of the sinking ship cavalier order, the depths shaman spirit, a new time thief temporal talent, a new hunter animal focus, a new soulknife blade skill, and much more

Pathfinder: The Enduring Witch

Greetings witch fans,

So today is our last in our series of Halloween-themed pareon hexes. Granted that is a really odd thing to say since just about all of these hexes can be called Halloween-themed. Don’t worry, we will still be doing our weekly patron hexes for the foreseeable future and as soon as I finish hexes for all the patrons, we will be wrapping this series together into the Book of Magic: Patron Hexes.

Let me just remind you about all the previous hexes in the series: trickery, death, agility, elements, light, and shadow. And now we give your witches a warty face with Endurance Patron Hexes.

Endurance Patron Hexes

Transfer Fatigue (Su): The witch touches a willing creature that is fatigued and removes the condition. As part of the same action, the witch can make a touch attack against a creature and give that creature the fatigued condition, which will last for however much time remained on the original creature’s condition. Once a creature has gained the fatigued condition from this hex, it cannot gain the fatigued condition again from this hex for 24 hours.

Weaken (Su): The witch chooses a creature she can see within 30 feet. If that creature fails a Will save, the creature takes a –2 penalty to Fortitude saves for 1 round. This duration can be extended with the cackle hex.

Major Hex: Wartskin (Su): The witch touches a creature. The creature’s skin thickens and grows warts, granting it a +4 natural armor bonus (or increasing its existing natural armor bonus by +4 if it already has one) and gains a +10 enhancement bonus to Intimidate checks. This lasts a number of minutes equal to 3 + the witch’s Intelligence bonus. This bonus increases by +1 for every 3 levels the witch possesses beyond 10 (to a maximum of +7 at 19th level). A creature affected by the wartskin hex cannot be targeted by it again for 24 hours.
